Berlin Big Data Center (BBDC) signs three-year MoU with the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI)



On 26 February, BBDC Director Prof. Dr. Volker Markl and QCRI Executive Director Dr. Ahmed Elmagarmid signed a memorandum of understanding between the two research institutions. MoU will promote collaboration via an exchange of research, academic materials, faculty and research scholars.

The Berlin Big Data Center (BBDC), part of the Technische Universit├Ąt Berlin ( TUB), signed a three-year pact with the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University ( HBKU), to promote international computing research.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between QCRI and the BBDC will promote collaboration via the exchange of research, academic materials, faculty and research scholars. Under this new agreement, BBDC and QCRI will conduct joint meetings for both education and research as well as establish new research projects.

QCRI's Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Elmagarmid, described the Berlin Big Data Center as a global leader in the area of big data and data analytics. "QCRI is looking forward to building a solid international partnership and sharing technologies in the fields of AI and Data Science," Dr. Elmagarmid said.

Prof. Dr. Volker Markl, Director of the Berlin Big Data Center added: "Bringing together the best minds in Big Data and Machine Learning from QCRI and the BBDC will help us to jointly tackle today's and tomorrow's grand challenges."

Established in 2010, QCRI is one of the three national research institutes created under Qatar Foundation and now part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University. QCRI Data Analytics research group specializes in internet computing, data analysis, and advanced computer hardware design. QCRI conducts research and development in collaboration with various organizations, including Qatari Diar, Aljazeera Network, Microsoft Research, and Yahoo! QCRI also collaborates with other computing research institutes, including MIT, Columbia University, University of Waterloo, and Purdue University.
